AT LAST! A PUBLIC CAMPAIGN TO DEFEAT LAND-BASED SEWAGE TREATMENT

Dear ARESST Supporter,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Association for Responsible and Environmentally Sustainable Sewage Treatment, an organization that is working for a greener approach to sewage treatment in Greater Victoria. We are opposed to the current Capital Regional District’s Plan to build a land-based secondary treatment system as being harmful to the environment and prohibitively expensive. You are probably already aware of the reasons why we oppose this project, but if you would like further information, please see our fact-based websites at www.aresst.ca and www.rstv.ca.
However, waging a successful public campaign to change the minds of governments and stop this ill-conceived project requires a great deal of time and effort. Consequently, we are appealing to you to be an active supporter of the campaign by doing some or all the following:
  • On October 3rd, at 7:30 pm at St Ann’s Academy, attend the rally that launches the public campaign, featuring the Hon. David Anderson and a panel of distinguished marine scientists.
  • Volunteer to help ARESST collect thousands of signatures through our online and paper petition.
  • Make a donation to the campaign to help us pay for advertising, public meetings, brochures, web development, signs, petitions and banners, in short the many costs associated with educating the public and waging a successful campaign.
  • Write a letter to your federal MP, provincial MLA, and members of your municipal council.  There is a webpage at our new www.stopabadplan.ca campaign website to help you do this.
Many business and community leaders are on our side as well as thousands of individuals. Polls indicate that the majority of people in Greater Victoria support our position. Your financial donation will also bring us closer to our goal of raising $20,000 to fund our campaign. Please make cheques payable to ARESST.
I would like to thank you for considering this opportunity to support this important citizens’ initiative. If you have any queries regarding ARESST, or the campaign itself, please feel free to contact me at the mailing address above or via email at stopabadplan@gmail.com.
Thank you,

John Bergbusch
